Canyon Ghosts

In 1997 the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association commissioned Austine Wood-Comarow to create a limited edition of 50 polages depicting construction of Hoover Dam. Until Association member Steve Cottrell suggested this fund raising endeavor and named the piece Austine created, she had never included Hoover Dam in her artwork.

In Canyon Ghosts high-scalers are working on the walls of Black Canyon while other workmen are being lowered to the canyon floor. In the distance, a steam locomotive chugs into the construction site. This scene slowly dissolves into another image revealing the completed dam with Lake Mead settled behind it and the Colorado River meandering into the foreground.

Canyon Ghosts, 19” in diameter including a light box, may be purchased only through the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association for $3,500. Half this amount is retained by the Association to fund operation of the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum. Because the Association is a non-profit organization, there is no sales tax.
